  • Sheila Allsbrook was the Club's guest speaker on 19 Aug 08. She was born in England and began a show business career in the 1930's doing radio plays for the BBC. She was just 15 years old and living in Ireland at the time.  Her talent was quickly discovered, and she soon moved on to the stage. She performed all throughout the WWII, also doing "USO type" shows for the British troops. She continued performing in Europe into the 1950s. She met her American husband, Bill, while performing for the American troops in Germany.  They were married and came to the U.S. in 1953.  Thank you for your contributions, energy, and wonderful stories... Kathy Kerlinger and Rick McLane.

  • 15 Aug 08 -- The Kiwanis Club of Tabb now makes sure that every baby that leaves Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News VA has a start on their personal library. The Club provides a tote bag with the slogan "I Read to My Baby" and a graphic of babies reading books. Each bag contains 2 hard page books suitable for "new" readers and 2 book marks encouraging parents to read to their child. The tote bag and the books have stickers letting the recipient know that they come from the Tabb Kiwanis. The books are distributed by a club member that works on the Maternity Floor of the Hospital.  Tabb has been doing this project for 5 months and has distributed more then 80 Books for Babies Bags... Randy Pine.
